1:11 Beloved, do not imitate what is evil, but what is good. He who does good is of God, but[d] he who does evil has not seen God.

John - We have a choice to imitate GOOD or EVIL, it is not a choice whether or not to imitate, we are always imitating someone in some way, it is a question of WHO we are imitating.

Psalm 126:1-6
Proverbs 29:12-14

29 13 The poor man and the oppressor have this in common:
The LORD gives light to the eyes of both.

John - God gives light (life) to both the poor and the one who OPPRESSES... Wow! this shows how patient God is with those who violate His laws, willing than NONE should perish but all should come to repentance.
