6.30.10

2 Kings 17-18:12

187 The LORD was with him; he prospered wherever he went. And he rebelled against the king of Assyria and did not serve him.

John - Throughout scripture if the Lord was with someone...they PROSPERED.. (to have insight, have comprehension) and today we often don't think clearly about what the Lord is responding to what we do...

Acts 20:1-38

2024 But none of these things move me; nor do I count my life dear to myself, so that I may finish my race with joy, and the ministry which I received from the Lord Jesus, to testify to the gospel of the grace of God.

John - Paul could say with assurance "none of these things move me" nor "do I count my life dear to myself" these statements show Paul did not "POSSESS" his own life, he had given it away, we must do the same.

Psalm 148:1-14
Proverbs 18:6-7

186 A fool’s lips enter into contention,
And his mouth calls for blows.
7 A fool’s mouth is his destruction,
And his lips are the snare of his soul.

John - a fools words are a snare to HIS OWN SOUL (mind, will and emotions) and his mouth IS his undoing.

2 Kings 15-16:20
Acts 19:13-41

32 Some therefore cried one thing and some another, for the assembly was confused, and most of them did not know why they had come together.

John - Notice that most of the people complaining in the assembly... did not know why they had come together, it is the same way today someone gets in a uproar over something and many of the people who complain about it don't even really know why they are there..

Psalm 147:1-20

6 The LORD lifts up the humble;
He casts the wicked down to the ground.

John - The LORD Himself... lifts to restore, relieve.. those who are HUMBLE.

Proverbs 18:4-5

184 The words of a man’s mouth are deep waters;
The wellspring of wisdom is a flowing brook.

John - Our words are DEEP, there is more behind our words than we can image.. the are small samples of how we think and what is in our hearts!

2 Kings 13-14:29
Acts 18:23-19:12

5 When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. 6 And when Paul had laid hands on them, the Holy Spirit came upon them, and they spoke with tongues and prophesied.

John - The laying on of hands is powerful in the life of a believer and amazing how God has used that act of faith through time to bless and encourage believers.

Psalm 146:1-10
Proverbs 18:2-3

182 A fool has no delight in understanding,
But in expressing his own heart.

John - One of the signs of foolishness is He does not delight in gaining understanding, but just in hearing his own words...

2 Kings 10:32-12:21
Acts 18:1-22

18:21 but took leave of them, saying, “I must by all means keep this coming feast in Jerusalem; but I will return again to you, God willing.” And he sailed from Ephesus.

John - Even Paul as close as he was to the LORD was still unsure exactly what the Lords will for his future was...

Psalm 145:1-21

18 The LORD is near to all who call upon Him,
To all who call upon Him in truth.

John - The bible declares the Lord is near to ALL who call upon Him... yet often we turn to our feelings to know if He is really near, because sometimes when we know He is near our feelings is what was SO moved..

Proverbs 18:1

181 A man who isolates himself seeks his own desire;
He rages against all wise judgment.

John - Isolation is a "self" focused act and a act against WISE judgment, by focusing on ones own option as the MOST important!

2 Kings 9:14-10:31
Acts 17:1-34

1721 For all the Athenians and the foreigners who were there spent their time in nothing else but either to tell or to hear some new thing.

John - There is a group in every generation who are NEW thinkers who love knowledge who see Jesus as another NEW idea, another WAY... this is to their same HE is not A WAY but THE WAY... this is seen as "close minded" to the NEW thinker.

Psalm 144:1-15
Proverbs 17:27-28

1727 He who has knowledge spares his words,
And a man of understanding is of a calm spirit.
28 Even a fool is counted wise when he holds his peace;
When he shuts his lips, he is considered perceptive.

John - The power of being quiet is amazing, EVEN a fool who keeps his lips shut is CONSIDERED perceptive. Sparing your words, staying calm and quiet will change the life of the person who walks this way.

6.25.10

2 Kings 8-9:13
Acts 16:16-40

1618 And this she did for many days.
But Paul, greatly annoyed, turned and said to the spirit, “I command you in the name of Jesus Christ to come out of her.” And he came out that very hour.

John - Paul got annoyed... to be troubled, displeased, offended, pained, to be worked up. It is interesting to think of Paul getting worked up, the thing the scripture continues to reveal is we all have the potential to struggle with the same things. Also in this passage when Paul commanded the spirit it says "he" came out that very hour.

Psalm 143:1-12
Proverbs 17:26

26 Also, to punish the righteous is not good,
Nor to strike princes for their uprightness.

John - to punish righteousness is NOT GOOD, knowing this you can trust God only does GOOD things...

2 Kings 6-7:20
Acts 15:36-16:15

156 Now when they had gone through Phrygia and the region of Galatia, they were forbidden by the Holy Spirit to preach the word in Asia.

John- Notice again Gods timing at work with again, not allowing them to preach the word in Asia, we must be guided by God to accomplish His purposes!

Psalm 142:1-7
Proverbs 17:24-25

1724 Wisdom is in the sight of him who has understanding,
But the eyes of a fool are on the ends of the earth.

John - People with understanding can SEE wisdom the look for it and are aware of it... the fools vision is on nothing specific they are not aware for they are ignorant of the things of God... they IGNORE them..

2 Kings 4:18-5:27
Acts 15:1-35

15:28 For it seemed good to the Holy Spirit, and to us, to lay upon you no greater burden than these necessary things: 29 that you abstain from things offered to idols, from blood, from things strangled, and from sexual immorality. If you keep yourselves from these, you will do well.

John - The word the apostles came back with is to lay upon them NO GREATER BURDEN THAN NECESSARY... again God showing He has given us a life of simplicity and freedom not rules and regulations..

Psalm 141:1-10
Proverbs 17:23

23 A wicked man accepts a bribe behind the back
To pervert the ways of justice.

John - The perverting of justice for money or gain is a wickedness that has been in the life of man from the time of the fall..

2 Kings 3-4:17
Acts 14:8-28

14:21 And when they had preached the gospel to that city and made many disciples, they returned to Lystra, Iconium, and Antioch, 22strengthening the souls of the disciples, exhorting them to continue in the faith, and saying, “We must through many tribulations enter the kingdom of God.”

John - When they are describing entering the kingdom of God they told the listeners "through many tribulations" they would enter, I think today we promote "through many blessings" and often times people are disappointed by the troubles that come...

Psalm 140:1-13
Proverbs 17:22

22 A merry heart does good, like medicine,
But a broken spirit dries the bones.

John - A merry heart does good..... Lord teach us the benefits of living merry - glad, joyful, showing joy, you who rejoice. It is a choice.

Acts 13:42-14:7

3 Therefore they stayed there a long time, speaking boldly in the Lord, who was bearing witness to the word of His grace, granting signs and wonders to be done by their hands.

John - When we speak of the Lord, we should speak boldly of who He is, and be witnesses to the grace He gives, this is powerful and is where your personal testimony of who God is to YOU, is used by the Lord in the lives of others..

Psalm 139:1-24

1616 Your eyes saw my substance, being yet unformed.
And in Your book they all were written,
The days fashioned for me,
When as yet there were none of them.

John - Mine and yours! Fashioned days, created for a purpose before we were ever born! God please teach me to number those days and see they are your handy work and plan for me, specifically not just generally.

Proverbs 17:19-21

John - Transgression produces strife, if you love on you love the other!

13: 32 And we declare to you glad tidings—that promise which was made to the fathers. 33 God has fulfilled this for us their children, in that He has raised up Jesus. As it is also written in the second Psalm:

‘ You are My Son,
Today I have begotten You.

John - The disciples declared "GLAD TIDINGS" that He has made us Son's of God! This is a gender perfect term... including daughters, what an amazing word that God would give us a new family!

Psalm 138:1-8

1388 The LORD will perfect that which concerns me;
Your mercy, O LORD, endures forever;

John - These words have comforted me many times when uncertainty is all I can see, the Lord knows the perfect way, and will perfect the way in my life past all my concerns...

Proverbs 17:17-18

17 18 A man devoid of understanding shakes hands in a pledge,

Psalm 137:1-9
Proverbs 17:16

1716 Why is there in the hand of a fool the purchase price of wisdom,
Since he has no heart for it?

John - Wisdom is something you need to have a "heart for" to receive, like Solomon.. He had a heart to receive wisdom and the Lord gave him wisdom and much, much more!

12:18 Then, as soon as it was day, there was no small stir among the soldiers about what had become of Peter. 19 But when Herod had searched for him and not found him, he examined the guards and commanded that they should be put to death.

John - Notice what happens to guards who let what they are guarding get away, this is another great thing about the resurrection, the guard were allow to live that were guarding Jesus's cave so they could tell the lie that He was NOT raised from the dead.

Psalm 136:1-26
Proverbs 17:14-15

17:14 The beginning of strife is like releasing water;
Therefore stop contention before a quarrel starts.
15 He who justifies the wicked, and he who condemns the just,

13 And Elijah said to her, “Do not fear; go and do as you have said, but make me a small cake from it first, and bring it to me; and afterward make some for yourself and your son.

John - Notice that Elijah had the woman give 1st, plant 1st, the very thing she needed and was her life sustaining hope.

Acts 10:24-48

10 45 And those of the circumcision who believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because the gift of the Holy Spirit had been poured out on the Gentiles also. 46 For they heard them speak with tongues and magnify God.

Psalm 134:1-3
Proverbs 17:9-11

Psalm 132:1-18
Proverbs 17:6

17:6 Children’s children are the crown of old men,
And the glory of children is their father.

John - Grand children are an old mans crown, what a great picture of the gift God gives us in children but even more so in GRAND children. This scripture also reveals to us the that the glory of children is their father, Jesus showed this SO powerfully!

Psalm 131:1-3
Proverbs 17:4-5

He who is glad at calamity will not go unpunished.

John - "This Moses whom THEY rejected.." the people of Israel rejected Moses asking him why he thought he had the authority to rule them, the authority Moses had was God had sent him, and this is the only authority that really matters, if God sends you to do something, that is what matters.

Psalm 128:1-6
Proverbs 16:31-33

16:31 The silver-haired head is a crown of glory,
If it is found in the way of righteousness.
32 He who is slow to anger is better than the mighty,
And he who rules his spirit than he who takes a city.
33 The lot is cast into the lap,
But its every decision is from the LORD.

John - In verse 32 we see someone who controls his anger is BETTER than the mighty, he is unmovable. Whoever rules his spirit is BETTER than the man who can overtake a city! Verse 33 gives us a picture of God intimate involvement in our everyday choices and everyday life!

John - "But God was with him and delivered him....." This is the desire of every man and woman that God would BE WITH THEM, and deliver us, and this is the promise the Cross of Calvary provided, GOD WITH US!

7:20 At this time Moses was born, and was well pleasing to God; and he was brought up in his father’s house for three months.

John - "Moses was born and was well pleasing to God...." What an amazing truth...Moses was born, had done nothing, and pleased God... this is a picture of God looking on the heart and knowing us completely!
