12:18 Then, as soon as it was day, there was no small stir among the soldiers about what had become of Peter. 19 But when Herod had searched for him and not found him, he examined the guards and commanded that they should be put to death.
John - Notice what happens to guards who let what they are guarding get away, this is another great thing about the resurrection, the guard were allow to live that were guarding Jesus's cave so they could tell the lie that He was NOT raised from the dead.

17:14 The beginning of strife is like releasing water;
Therefore stop contention before a quarrel starts.
15 He who justifies the wicked, and he who condemns the just,
Both of them alike are an abomination to the LORD.

Acts 12:18 Who Peter was wasn't as important as what he was accomplishing.Herod saw Peter as a threat and therefore placed him in prison to stop him form speaking.Holding Peter captive was so vital to Herod that when he escaped, those he saw as responsible he also saw as worthy of death.It was important to Herod that Peter stay confined, but it was more important to God that he be set free.
ReplyDeleteProv. 17:14 Contention is like the drip in your faucet, but to quarrel is like a busted water line that floods the whole house.
