117 If then you count me as a partner, receive him as you would me. 18 But if he has wronged you or owes anything, put that on my account.

John - Paul encourages them to receive him, as they received Paul, BUT if they have anything against this brother... Paul says I will pay it... In this he encourages and reconciles... This is foundational in Gods work.

Psalm 101:1-8
Proverbs 26:20

2620 Where there is no wood, the fire goes out;
And where there is no talebearer, strife ceases.

John - Gossip is the fuel to keep the fire going in conflict, stop listening to gossip or speaking it, the conflict will die down.
