1.3.10
Genesis 5-7:24
68 But Noah found grace in the eyes of the LORD.
John – I love how God showed grace to Noah to the saving of him and his family!
Matthew 3:7-4:11
311 I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance, but He who is coming after me is mightier than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire.
43 Now when the tempter came to Him, he said, “If You are the Son of God, command that these stones become bread.”
John – Notice the enemy questioning again… “IF”, if he questioned Jesus what do you think he will do with us??
Psalm 3:1-8
8 Salvation belongs to the LORD.
Your blessing is upon Your people. Selah
John - He doesn’t just do salvation, HE OWNS it..
Proverbs 1:10-19
10 My son, if sinners entice you,
Do not consent.
John – We decide what we consent to…
Gen 5:3 And Adam lived one hundred and thirty years, and begot a son in his own likeness, after his image, and named him Seth.
Laura: If Seth was created in Adam's image. Then how much like God's image are we? If God said he created man in his own image. I think this is a physical example that when God said we are created in his image, just exactly how real that is....and how much like him we are. But it is like unyeilded to him we use all his giftings/abilities (ex. how we use our gift of faith....to every man is given a measure of faith) in the wrong way.
Gen 5:1 When God created man, he made him in the likeness of God.
11 In the six hundredth year of Noah’s life, in the second month, the seventeenth day of the month, on that day all the fountains of the great deep were broken up, and the windows of heaven were opened.
Laura: I think this is amazing! We explain things so naturally like "oh, the weather is rainy, or whatever" yet, God is the one opening up the windows of heaven, or breaking up the fountains of the great deep. I know science can explain these processes, but the origin or how they all started and work is definitely GOD.
Ty: It is amazing. Every ancient culture that has ancient literature has a flood story. This is not a coincidence. This includes the Chinese. The Chinese character for Boat or ship looks like this.
A vessel with 8 people. Noah, his wife, his three sons, and thier three wives. This was recently pointed out to me in a book that I am reading. I thought this was awesome, and thier are many other characters like this one in the Chinese language, which is one of the oldest languages.
John - COOL~
Matt. 4:8 Again, the devil took Him up on an exceedingly high mountain,
Matt. 4: 5 The devil took him to the holy city
Laura: I think it is wild that the devil took Jesus. Like he literally was allowed to lead him to certain places. I think this kind of falls in line with "why do bad things happen to good people" the fact that God did allow this. and it was part of his plan for Jesus to be able to fulfill everything God intended. I am not saying it sounds good to me, but it seems to be the reality of who God is at times.
Matt. 4:5 Then the devil took Him up into the holy city, set Him on the pinnacle of the temple, 6 and said to Him, “If You are the Son of God, throw Yourself down. For it is written:
‘ He shall give His angels charge over you,’
and,
Jesus's
‘ In their hands they shall bear you up,
Lest you dash your foot against a stone.’”[d]
7 Jesus said to him, “It is written again, ‘You shall not tempt the LORD your God.’”[e]
Ty: I understand Satan tempting Jesus with bread and power, but the temptation above is harder for me to understand. Why do you think Satan tempted Jesus in this way?
John - Maybe the power to "show" His power instead of submitting to Gods, Gods provides only where he guides...
Matt 3:13 Then Jesus came from Galilee to John at the Jordan to be baptized by him. 14 And John tried to prevent Him, saying, “I need to be baptized by You, and are You coming to me?”
15 But Jesus answered and said to him, “Permit it to be so now, for thus it is fitting for us to fulfill all righteousness.” Then he allowed Him.
Ty: Why did Jesus submit himself to John and be baptized by him?
John - I think....because John the baptist was Gods ordianded authority at the time, Jesus was a man who understood blessing and gifting only flow through God authority. He was also laying out the pattern for us to see humility in a "life picture"
9 and do not think to say to yourselves, ‘We have Abraham as ourfather.’ For I say to you that God is able to raise up children to Abraham from these stones.
Ty: Praise God. On day 1, Matthew started out with the Genealogy of Abraham because of the covenant that God made with him, and then David. John is pointing out here that the Gentiles will have the blessings of being from the seed of Abraham because we are born again by faith in Jesus who was the son of God, and also son of Abraham's decedents. God never breaks a covenant or promise.
Laura: That is powerful!
