1.6.10
Genesis 13:5-15:21
1423 that I will take nothing, from a thread to a sandal strap, and that I will not take anything that is yours, lest you should say, ‘I have made Abram rich’—
John – He knew he was going to be rich and knew he wanted NO one to be able to claim that they did it for him, just his GOD.
Laura - Right after this God told him "Do not be afraid, Abram. I am your sheild, your very great reward.
Reward H7939
1) hire, wages
a) wages
b) reward, pay
c) fare, fee, passage-money
6 But in the fourth generation they (Abram's decendants) shall return here (great trees of Mamre the Amorite) v.13, for the iniquity of the Amorites is not yet complete.”
Laura- What does this mean?
156 And he believed in the LORD, and He accounted it to him for righteousness.
7 Then He said to him, “I am the LORD, who brought you out of Ur of the Chaldeans, to give you this land to inherit it.”
John- he believed, such a seemingly simple act, but such a powerful decision… it changed the world.
Laura- Believing makes me righteous, Lord help me believe. Believe that i am loved not based on my performance.
Matthew 5:27-48
527 “You have heard that it was said to those of old,[ ‘You shall not commit adultery.’28 But I say to you that whoever looks at a woman to lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart.
John – Jesus is always saying “But” He continually raised the bar, and then it is interesting that He says if you look “to” lust, intention…. Not action…
543 “You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall love your neighbor[e] and hate your enemy.’ 44 But I say to you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you,[f] 45 that you may be sons of your Father in heaven; for He makes His sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust.
Jesus – Whew~ this is an example of how Jesus thinks beyond what we can naturally imagine, faith is beyond understanding!
Psalm 6:1-10
6 9 The LORD has heard my supplication;
The LORD will receive my prayer.
10 Let all my enemies be ashamed and greatly troubled;
Let them turn back and be ashamed suddenly.
Laura
Ps. 6:4 Save me because of your unfailing love.
Ps. 6:9 The Lord has heard my cry for mercy, the Lord accepts my prayer.
Proverbs 1:29-33
129 Because they hated knowledge
And did not choose the fear of the LORD,
30 They would have none of my counsel
And despised my every rebuke.
31 Therefore they shall eat the fruit of their own way,
And be filled to the full with their own fancies.
32 For the turning away of the simple will slay them,
And the complacency of fools will destroy them;
33 But whoever listens to me will dwell safely,
And will be secure, without fear of evil.”
John – Because…. And…. But…..will…. We continue to see how God let our choices make changes.
