CCI Opelika One Year Bible Reading 2010

1.9.10

Genesis 20-22:24

2016 Then to Sarah he said, “Behold, I have given your brother a thousand pieces of silver; indeed this vindicates you before all who are with you and before everybody.” Thus she was rebuked.

John – Interesting she was rebuked, she must have had some responsibility toward how she handled this situation.

2113 Yet I will also make a nation of the son of the bondwoman, because he is your seed.”

John – God blesses seed even when it was planted in the wrong ground….hmmm….

Matthew 7:15-29

715 “Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravenous wolves. 16 You will know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes from thornbushes or figs from thistles?

John – We must learn to watch FRUIT, not behavior, not compliance to what we think, FRUIT, FRUIT! It is the final product of a tree and a life.

Psalm 9:1-12

Proverbs 2:16-22

2 21 For the upright will dwell in the land,
And the blameless will remain in it;
22 But the wicked will be cut off from the earth,
And the unfaithful will be uprooted from it.

John – God has us DWELL and REMAIN..

Gen 22: 5 And Abraham said to his young men, “Stay here with the donkey; the lad[c] and I will go yonder and worship, and we will come back to you.”

Ty: Abraham said we will come back after God had told Abraham that he was going to offer his son as a burnt sacrifice. Abraham believed that God would preserve his son before he went to Moriah, but he went with full intentions of following God's command to him. Abraham must have remembered God's promise:
Gen 17:19 Then God said: “No, Sarah your wife shall bear you a son, and you shall call his name Isaac; I will establish My covenant with him for an everlasting covenant, and with his descendants after him
Ty: Abraham never questioned God's integrity. I really believe he was prepared to kill his son (I don't think Abraham thought he was being tested, he was just following God), but I can't comprehend the amount of faith that it took for Abraham to bind his own son as a sacrifice knowing that it went against everything that God had previousely told him. God can see in the heart, so he knew Abraham had every intention of sacrificing his son. Abraham was not just going through the motions. When Abraham told his young men " We will be back", he was uncertain of what was going to happen, but he believed in the promise of God without questioning God's intentions for the last thing that he told him to do. It wasn't until after God confirmed the intentions of Abraham's heart that he showed Abraham his provision. Abraham told Isacc that God would provide for the sacrifice, but he didn't look for it until God had released him from his last command. I know am called to a purpose that aligns with the promises of God, but when the things that are in front of me do not seem to make sense, I look for God's provision prematurily instead of pursueing the command that he has currently put in front of me with a full heart. God help me to be faithful like Abraham.
