CCI Opelika One Year Bible Reading 2010

1.17.10

Genesis 35-36:43

Matthew 12:1-21

12Yet I say to you that in this place there is One greater than the temple. 7 But if you had known what this means, ‘I desire mercy and not sacrifice,’ you would not have condemned the guiltless.

John – Jesus is explaining to them that HE is greater than the place they know God lives this had to shake up their thinking, today He is still shaking us up and showing us HE is greater than our BUILDINGS and DENOMINATIONS… The person Jesus..

Psalm 15:1-5

151 LORD, who may abide in Your tabernacle?
Who may dwell in Your holy hill?

2 He who walks uprightly,
And works righteousness,
And speaks the truth in his heart;
3 He who does not backbite with his tongue,
Nor does evil to his neighbor,
Nor does he take up a reproach against his friend;
4 In whose eyes a vile person is despised,
But he honors those who fear the LORD;
He who swears to his own hurt and does not change;
5 He who does not put out his money at usury,
Nor does he take a bribe against the innocent.

He who does these things shall never be moved.

John – Absolutely POWERFUL!!! This is speaking of how we: walk, work, and speak! Also NO backbiting, reproaching, that we ARE to DESPISE, and honor. We are the ones ho SWEARS and not changes, we LOAN but at the right rate, and never take a bribe!

WOW!!!!!!!! In thing kind of life – That man will never be moved!

Proverbs 3:21-26

321 My son, let them not depart from your eyes—
Keep sound wisdom and discretion;
22 So they will be life to your soul
And grace to your neck.
23 Then you will walk safely in your way,
And your foot will not stumble.
24 When you lie down, you will not be afraid;
Yes, you will lie down and your sleep will be sweet.
25 Do not be afraid of sudden terror,
Nor of trouble from the wicked when it comes;
26 For the LORD will be your confidence,
And will keep your foot from being caught.

John – I am SO MOVED by this, as my heart pounds with excitement, God BE MY CONFIDENCE! The only one who can GOD! Be my confidence!

7 But if you had known what this means, ‘I desire mercy and not sacrifice,’[a] you would not have condemned the guiltless.

Ty - Naturally, sacrifice is easier than mercy, performance is easier to understand than humility and forgiveness. No striving ...

29 Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.”

Ty - Is there a direct relationship between religious striving/ performance and judgement? We live in a performance based society, a society of constant comparison. Does Verse 7 speaks the same today as it did when he told it to the pharisees?

John - Ty I believe it does personally, but we always are monitoring the results of our performance so it is SO hard to see the Lord as wanting us to be intention driven and not results... Intention NOT outcome...
