212 Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling; 13 for it is God who works in you both to will and to do for His good pleasure.

John - it is GOD who works... and what is He doing? For us to accomplish His will and to DO His good pleasure!

Psalm 72:1-20
Proverbs 24:11-12

2411 Deliver those who are drawn toward death,
And hold back those stumbling to the slaughter.

John - There are people who are stumbling toward destruction, these people need someone to help hold them back, God can use His people to protect the lives of those that are ignorant of His truth.
