Deuteronomy 9-10:22
Luke 8:4-21

8:11 “Now the parable is this: The seed is the word of God. 12 Those by the wayside are the ones who hear; then the devil comes and takes away the word out of their hearts, lest they should believe and be saved.

John - Interestly enough they HEAR but then what they heard gets TAKEN away..before they believe and are saved.

Psalm 69:19-36

69:33 For the LORD hears the poor,
And does not despise His prisoners.

John - poor- subject to oppression and abuse, in this passage you can take comfort that God hears you... And if He hears you He will work through where you are!

Proverbs 12:2-3

12:2 A good man obtains favor from the LORD,
But a man of wicked intentions He will condemn.
3 A man is not established by wickedness,
But the root of the righteous cannot be moved.

John - A good, pleasant, agreeable man... obtains (receives) FAVOR from the Lord.... It is important to be open in relationships with others and God because out of it flows FAVOR!

  1. ‘ Seeing they may not see,
And hearing they may not understand.’

Of the crowds, only those that were engaged or wanted to hear would get it. It wasn't enough to just be there as a spectator. He only spoke directly to the disciples, speaking in parables to the crowds. Jesus was an effective leader. He understood the inefficiency of the crowds. He spent the largest amount of time with the smallest amount of people (those that were engaged, and passionate about him).

  2. "But the ones that fell on the good ground are those who, having heard the word with a noble and good heart, keep it and bear fruit with patience."

What does it mean to bear fruit with patience?
