CCI Opelika One Year Bible Reading 2010

5.14.10

1 Samuel 15-16:23

15:22 So Samuel said:

“Has the LORD as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices,
As in obeying the voice of the LORD?
Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice,

And to heed than the fat of rams.

John - The Lord does not need our sacrifices, He is delighted by our OBEYING His voice, how easy it is for us ot think He wants us to give up something physical, when it is all about our WILL.

John 8:1-20

8:20 These words Jesus spoke in the treasury, as He taught in the temple; and no one laid hands on Him, for His hour had not yet come.

John - God has a time and a place for everything, Jesus had no one lay hands on Him for His hours had not yet come, what a reassurance for us, things in our life will happen when our time has come for those things, not before, the Lord is in control.

Psalm 110:1-7
Proverbs 15:8-10

15:8 The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination to the LORD,
But the prayer of the upright is His delight.
9 The way of the wicked is an abomination to the LORD,
But He loves him who follows righteousness.

John - The sacrifice and the way of the wicked is an abomination... Wow even their sacrifice? Yes.. The Lord loves him who follows righteousness and the uprights prayer, He delights and loves these things... Lord let us delight YOU and do things you LOVE!!

  1. 1 Sam.15:22 The only difference between sacrificial offerings and obedience is what gets put to death.A sacrifice is an outward act where something else is placed as the offering, but obedience is an inward act pushing out that places ones self on the altar of sacrifice.

  2. John 8:20 The words that rallied His enemies to put Him to death were the same words that spoke freedom and life everlasting.Though your enemies rage and fill the air with violence your life stands sure in the Masters hand, and no man takes your life, it is laid down, and He who lays it down will also raise it back up again. There is a time and a season for all things.

  3. Prov.15:8 How can I give to the Lord and say it is a sacrifice when I have my brother's blood upon my hands?
